Maria Lazaridou was born in November 1969 in Thessaloniki, Greece, where she studied classical guitar with Evaggelos Assimakopoulos and Loukia Samourka. She studied advanced music theory with Yiannis Aggelakis, Kostas Grimaldis and Leontios Hadjileontiadis at the Synchrono Conservatory with, as well as at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. Additionally, she attended voice lessons with Varvara Tsampali and Marina Vouloyianni, Byzantine music with Panayiotis Neohoritis and electroacoustic composition with Panayiotis Kokoras.
In 2000 she graduated from Classical Guitar class with honors, while in 2012 she completed her studies in Composition with honors and 2nd reward. A part of her works have been presented in Athens and Thessaloniki, in the context of workshops, competitions and concerts such as: “The Cube” by Diotima String Quartet ensemble (4/2009), “WEAST”, commissioned by the Athens Concert Hall (11/2009), “Meern Vob”, 1st panhellenic Composition Competition of Chamber Music “Kostas Nikitas” (12/2009), “Volcano”, commissioned by the horn-player Traianos Papadopoulos (5/2010), “dnophos”, commissioned by the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (5/2011), “Sensitive Selfish” (State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, 3/2014), “guitarpa.gr”, commissioned by Dimitris Ioannou (3/1014). She won the first prize (1/127) at the 1st Worldwide Composition Competition for string orchestra “Ciudad de Orihuela”, in Spain, with the work “L.F.L.”. Recently, her work “22.55.64.” presented at the 16th International Kozani Music Seminar (8/2014). She has composed works for instrumental, vocal and electronic music, for solo instruments, chamber music ensembles, as well as orchestral. |
She has conducted choral and instrumental ensembles of western and
byzantine-traditional music, such as child-teen choir and youth
orchestra at St. Eleftherios Church (OTE choral festival 1995, 1998),
choir “Pro Musica” (choral festival of Kefalonia 2000, OTE choral
festival 2001), the traditional women choir of Perea-Thessaloniki “love”
(Italy 2003, Syria 2004).
She has taught classical guitar and advanced music theory courses at the Conservatory “Friends of Literature and Arts Association» at Serres (1996-2002) while she teaches at the conservatory “En Armonia” since 2009. Since 1998 she is a music teacher in public education.
